Athina Bakaraki

Psychologist, BSc
Systemic Psychotherapist,PGCert

For adults, groups, families and parents.

“Psychotherapy is the journey from the loneliness of denial to the freedom of acceptance.
Everything changes when we give it new meaning.”

My Approach

I believe that choosing to begin therapy is itself an act of courage. It marks a meaningful recognition of one’s vulnerability, as well as a conscious willingness to take greater responsibility for oneself.

I offer a warm, collaborative space to gently bring attention to recurring patterns, unspoken needs, and the ways past experiences may continue to shape the present.

Together, we work toward opening the possibility for new meaning, deeper connection, and personal growth.

  • I see you within the context of your relationships, family history, and social environment, not in isolation.

  • You are the expert on your own life. My role is to be a curious, respectful co-explorer alongside you.

  • Grounded in systemic training, narrative approaches, and contemporary psychological research.

  • Every session is non-judgmental and confidential. You are free to be fully yourself.

What I Offer

My Story

My name is Athina Bakaraki, and I am a Psychologist and Systemic Psychotherapist.

I have always been the kind of person who asks why things work the way they do. From an early age, I found myself deeply drawn to people and to the questions that shape us: how we connect, how we are influenced by our relationships, how we struggle, and how growth and change become possible.

That curiosity first led me to a BSc in Early Childhood Education at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where I came into close contact with the earliest stages of human development. Yet, over time, I felt a growing need to move closer to the root of human experience.

So I continued my path with a BSc in Psychology at the University of Strasbourg, and later a Postgraduate Diploma in Systemic and Family Therapy at the Laboratory for the Exploration of Human Relations. There, I found not only a professional career, but also a way of understanding people through the wider contexts of their lives: their relationships, histories, patterns, and the systems they are part of. This perspective continues to guide my work today.

My approach is systemic at its core. I don't see difficulties as living inside a person in isolation I see them as emerging within webs of relationship, history, and context. In our work together, we explore not just what is happening, but how and with whom. We look at the patterns that have formed around you, and the new ones that are possible. My goal is to offer a space that is genuinely safe: one where you can be honest, curious, and in time, more fully yourself.

Whether you're seeking support for yourself, your child, or your family, I offer individual psychotherapy, family sessions, and parental guidance to explore difficulties, deepen understanding, and create space for meaningful change.

Sessions are available in Greek and English, in person in Athens and online.

Whatever brings you here, I am glad you are considering it. And I would be honoured to walk alongside you.

FAQs

  • Absolutely. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. Everything you share remains strictly private, with very limited exceptions required by law. I always explain these boundaries clearly from the start.

  • Therapy can benefit anyone who feels stuck, overwhelmed, or simply curious about themselves. You don't need to be in crisis — many people come to therapy for personal growth and self-awareness.

  • The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. I'll ask about what brings you to therapy, your background, and what you hope to achieve. It's also your chance to see whether you feel comfortable working with me.

  • Therapy can be short-term or longer-term, depending on what brings you here and what you would like to work on. For some people, a focused piece of work over a limited number of sessions feels enough; for others, therapy becomes a longer process of deeper exploration. We stay in dialogue about your needs and review the work together as it unfolds.
